October 24 – October 31, 2009
Fabbrica – Gambettola FC, Italy
Visualcontainer is glad to support Rad’Art project
On October 24 a fund-raising initiative supporting the Rad’Art cultural project conceived by Catalan artist Anton Roca will be launched at Fabbrica in Gambettola (FC). Curated and supported by Simonetta Lux, a professor at the Sapienza University in Rome and director of the Museo Laboratorio di Arte Contemporanea at the same university, as well as an experienced and respected curator, the initiative includes both a wide retrospective show of the works produced by Anton Roca over the last 25 years and an auction of the same works taking place on Saturday October 31.
The proceeds of the auction will be entirely donated to complete the rehabilitation of the Rad’Art headquarters.
The program of Rad’Art, one of the few artist residencies in Italy, revolves around the non-profit promotion of contemporary art research.
Every year the program launches a competition for the selection of two artists who are offered the opportunity to spend a period at Rad’Art in order to promote its artistic and cultural development. Rad’Art offers the artists a wide range of cultural exchanges enabled by a network of partnerships and collaborations with national and international organisations of similar character including La Chambre Blanche, an Art Centre in Québec exclusively devoted to artist residencies, the MLAC-Museo Laboratorio di arte Contemporanea Research Centre at the Sapienza University in Rome that has worked for twenty years at uniting art creation and critical and curatorial education, the Association Wunderkammern in its recently opened venue in Rome or Visualcontainer, a distributor of video art and new-media art.
Promoted by the Mental Permanent Factory, Rad’Art is installed in a large rehabilitated building – 200 m2 of covered space plus 3500 m2 of surrounding area – in San Romano, in an isolated valley in the Apennines in the area of Forlì-Cesena. Besides the artist residency, it promotes a wide range of cultural and educational activities including the production of internet-related art projects; a sound research-related project; the organisation of summer workshops devoted to art, photography, music, philosophy, science, architecture; the creation of a video art documentation centre; the preservation, as reference documents, of the artist dossiers acquired in the context of the residency selection; the organisation of workshops for teachers and school-age children.
Finally, in the spirit of sharing information and creative experiences to be used in the production of collective works, Rad’Art will become the home of the permanent creative workshop luogoComune, a group of artists founded by Anton Roca in 2006.
On the whole, the Rad’Art project reflects an idea of art in which aesthetic and ethical realms coincide, the social component is as important as the poetic one and art and life are closely related. Dialogue, exchange, the awareness of others and thus self-awareness are part of such an art practice and reflect the experience that Anton Roca has developed over almost 25 years of activity. Born in Reus (Catalunya) in 1960, Anton Roca is a self-taught artist who permanently moved to Italy in the mid-Eighties. During his art career he has also developed some very tangible projects such as the Mental Permanent Factory and the Artéco Cultural Association, as instances of a poetics founded on interdisciplinary expressive means and on the close interaction of artistic, ethical, social and political experiences.
He has participated in several exhibitions both in Italy and abroad; Anton Roca’s works are part of public and private collections disseminated in a wide range of countries: from Reus and Alcover to Budapest; from Rome to Berlin; from Cesena, where he lives, to Québec.
Rad’Art is already partly completed but, in order to guarantee its full operational mode before the end of 2010, it is necessary that the rehabilitation of its premises, designed by Claudio Abbondanza, is completed as soon as possible.
The exhibition and auction organized at Fabbrica meet this fundamental need and appeal to all those who wish to support Rad’Art as an innovative cultural reality for contemporary art in Emilia Romagna.
