DIGITAL MARRAKECH, an international media arts and digital festival, which aims to present diverse trends and practices in the fields of digital film & video, multimedia performances, Video installations, digital mapping, net art, workshops and other interdisciplinary forms
The festival program consists of live video performances, film screenings, workshops, lectures, and exhibition. In the festival framework artists from all over the world present latest practices, research and technologies and showcase important achievements in the development of media arts practices.
DIGITAL MARRAKECH, also wants to contribute in interdisciplinary collaborations between south and north, and create an atmosphere of international exchange between Moroccan artists and international ones. In this way we aim to bring together emerging artists sharing common ideas and energy, and to introduce them in a comprehensive but professional way with the newest trends in the field of Media art practices.
The idea is to make the festival a very important cultural event on the Moroccan and Arab map and unite various social spheres, like culture, arts and education. Our ambition is to turn the DIGITAL MARRAKECH Festival into an international Media Art meeting point in Marrakech.
The project takes place in different locations in Marrakech city, especially in its imperial part which is the old medina.

The Wild side
To be the wild side, the free one, the one that’s difficult to define and categorize; the side of art and experimentation which is unpredictable and in metamorphosis. An unceasing open research, to find out that the reflected image and the shadow show much more than what you expected. Beyond definitions and genres, art that interests us is the one that grows on the wild and yet undefined side, the side of The Others: unexplored ideas that grow independently – sprouted in unimaginable places, out of the usual fields and spaces – that offer themselves on an unique condition: the free observation. The Others – The Wild Side will be back in November with its dynamic identity living on exhibitions, concerts, performances and on the thoughts of all those who inhabit it and change, remember, dream, plan, experience with us. And turn into The Others.
Artists selected:Francesco Arena, Hwayong Jung, Rita Casdia, Barbara Brugola, Armida Gandini, Anita Calà, Yuri Pirondi + Ines von Bonhorst, Patrizia Bonardi, Katharina Gruzei, Slawomir Milewski

The Others Fair:
The Others is an international exhibition project dedicated to the emerging contemporary art, now in its fourth edition. The protagonists of The Others are all the operators – no matter if profit or no-profit – which deal on a continuous basis with programs dedicated to young artists: galleries born after January 1st 2009 and – irrespectively on their opening date – no-profit centers, associations and foundations, artists or curators collectives, artist-run-spaces, publishing projects, art awards, residences for artists, art schools and academies, bookshops which deal with art, spaces dedicated to young, self-produced design and artist graphics which meet at The Others to develop a focus on the global community of emerging art. A unique exhibition platform, implemented to gather the multiplicity of the realities which operate for the promotion of the younger artists and contexts showing a wide variety of objectives, programs and means of expression. Few initiatives exist for their collective promotion, and yet all subjects do share the spirit of researching and valorizing the emerging creative energies. A great opportunity for visibility and – at the same time – an essential place to gather and exchange experiences, contacts and projects; elements which constitute the very basis for the development of professional networks and activate virtuous synergies, as it is essential for the growth of the whole contemporary art system. Devised for young exhibitors in terms of quality and access, The Others is therefore a privileged observatory on the emerging international creativity, a place for a welcoming, experimental and non-conventional cultural proposal.

This year’s theme is “approach to the idea of power”
“We are sure that the art has to interact with our enviroment. And now the sistem and the goberments are totally cutting all the helps to culture, art and creativity. Trying to impulse the society of the money, were artists are only mere “pampering” disenfranchised, in a world that unfortunately goes wrong and can get worse, until we break the barriers and claim our positions. We want to give visibility to those artists who are struggling, creating and facing the system through art . Forcefully, without fear, with the courage to believe that another world is possible and we have the POWER to change it “
Mario Gutiérrez Cru.
Visualcontainer as partner of PROYECTOR was invited to present a videoart selection on “power” topic.
