We are pleased to announce that on Tuesday December 14th, at 5.00 p.m. ACCEA Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art in Yerevan, will host a oneday-event Italian Container: the emerging Italian video art comes to Yerevan project. The event is curated by Carolina Lio, the currently curator in-residence at ACOSS Cultural NGO in Yerevan, and supported by European Cultural Foundation of Amsterdam and the Open Society Institute of the Soros Foundation in New York through “Step Beyond” travel grant.
A sequence of fourteen videos will be screened during the evening. The works have been realized by emerging and mid-carreer Italian artists and have been selected by the curator in collaboration with Visual Container (www.visualcontainer.org), a Milan based organization for the promotion and dissemination of Italian video art and new media.
All selected videos are produced in the last years and have already been admitted in International Video Festivals. Invited artists are chosen as a representative group of emerging young figures already known and well-adjusted in the Italian contemporary art scene. The videos are of varying types, ranging from animation to performance, in order to give as complete view as possible of the today’s video art in Italy.
The initiative is part of the “Step Beyond” program, aimed to stimulate transnational collaborations and the mobility of artists and cultural actors. In particular it is focused on cultural exchanges between European countries and their neighbours. Fallowing this the one-day-event in ACCEA/NPAK, screening of works of Armenian video artists will take place in Italy in January 2011, organized in [.BOX] exhibition space in Milan.

Siamo lieti di annunciare che martedi 14 Dicembre alle ore 17.00, l’ACCEA – Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art di Yerevan ospiterà l’evento “Italian Container: la videoarte italiana emergente va a Yerevan”.
L’evento, che avrà la durata di un giorno, è curato da Carolina Lio, l’attuale curator-in-residence di ACOSS Cultural NGO in Yerevan, e vede il supporto della Fondazione Culturale Europea di Amsterdam e dell’ Open Society Institute della Fondazione Soros di New York grazie al grant di viaggio “Step Beyond”.
Durante l’evento, verrà proiettata una sequenza di 14 video: i lavori sono stati realizzati da artisti italiani emergenti e già affermati, che sono stati scelti dal curatore in collaborazione con Visual Container (www.visualcontainer.org), organizzazione di Milano dedita alla promozione e distribuzione di videoarte italiana e new media.
Tutti i video selezionati sono stati prodotti nell’ultimo anno e hanno già partecipato a video festival internazionali. Gli artisti sono stati scelti per rappresentatare un gruppo significativo di giovani autori emergenti ma con una produzione già nota e affermata nella scena artistica contemporanea italiana. I video spaziano tra diverse tipologie, dall’animazione alla performance, dando così una visione quanto più completa possibile della videoarte prodotta oggi in Italia.
L’inziativa è parte del programma “Step Beyond”, il cui scopo è di stimolare la collaborazione internazionale e la mobilità di artisti e operatori culturali. In particolare, si focalizza sugli scambi culturali tra i Paesi europei e i loro vicini.
A questo evento di un giorno presso ACCEA/NPAK, farà quindi seguito uno screening di lavori di videoartisti armeni, che sarà presentato a gennaio 2011 in Italia presso lo spazio espositivo.[BOX] di VisualContainer in Milano.

ITALIANIAN CHARACTER, A NATIONAL ART MOLESKINE
What result can offer art about contemporary Italy then? What identity would offer the most recent works by our artists facing their time?
In such a context, videoart seems to be one of the most favourite and useful media to take the pulse of the real and provide the most adherent image to what we may call contemporary Italy of early third Millenium.
In the third-millenium artworks by Italian videoartists, the investigation of single and collective identity within the “Italian system” has become a crux: in the first decade of Y2K, they express a tormeting will to be in direct contact with the daily living, and the need for a umbilical cord to the most ordinary back-grounds and relevant rules and rhythms, urban and anthropological environments and peculiar problems.
On such basis, VisualContainer and Careof, two Milan-based not-for-profit organisations devoted to the promotion of Italian videoart within the international art environment, join their forces into a videoart exhibition to be shown at the Italian Cultural Institute, and presenting a most original and contemporary insight into the Italian character as it is being perceived by young artists.
Within the proposed selection, some videoartists investigate and show contemporary society in real time, thus offering a new format of socially committed documentary. Others would rather go for the most sophisticated chances of post-editing or directly creating images by resorting to other languages such as animation or television and movie found footage, eventually accessing to a presentation that rejoices any mimesis and doesn’t show the real as its is, but rather expresses its logic and properties.
Contemporary is clearly apparent in the great social issues, particularly the ones played by anyone being different or emigrant, which are sometimes filled in with empathy by the artist and sometimes ironically addressing political institutions that seems to be providing nothing but an apparent and simplistic solution.
